20 Holiday Themed Journal Prompts

It’s Day Eight of Blogmas, and this is quite possibly my favorite post yet! There are few things in life I love more than journaling; it is so good for getting things off your chest, self-reflection, and boosting your creativity (if you want to see more benefits of journaling, check out my post 5 Wickedly Cool Benefits to Journaling). With that being said, journaling can sometimes feel a bit repetitive, so I came up with some writing prompts that will add a little festiveness to your journal for the season!

Some of these are based off reflection, but others are just some fun to get your creative juices flowing. The best thing about journaling is that there is no right or wrong way to do it; it’s all about what works best for you. I hope you enjoy these festive prompts!

20 Holiday Themed Journal Prompts

1. What is your favorite thing about the holiday season?

2. What are you looking forward to in the New Year?

3. Write down ten good things that happened to you this year.

4. Write a letter to someone that’s been on your mind this year. You don’t have to send it, just write down your thoughts to this person.

5. Write down your goals for the New Year

6. If you could create a holiday tradition of your own, what would it be like? What would you celebrate?

7. What puts you in the Christmas spirit? Have you felt festive this year?

8. Write a poem about the winter and how it makes you feel.

9. Write a short summary of this last year. Were there moments you particularly enjoyed? Did you have any standout achievements or events?

10. What is the best gift you ever received from Santa? (Or just the best gift in general)

11. What are your favorite types of holiday treats?

12. Are there any parts of the holiday season that you find particularly difficult? How do you handle that?

13. Write about a typical day in the life of your favorite Holiday character.

14. Write about how you feel waking up on Christmas morning. Better yet, write a poem about the feeling of Christmas morning.

15. Write about your favorite holiday story or movie. What do you like about it?

16. Pretend that you can get each person in your family any Christmas gift you want–even if it is very expensive or difficult to get. What would you give each person and why?

17. Write about the perfect Christmas day. Make sure to include plenty of details.

18. Pretend you could choose a gift that will be given to every child in the world. What gift would you choose and why?

19. What is the best gift you’ve ever given to someone? How did it make you feel?

20. Think about last Christmas. How was your life different then? How was it the same?

These prompts were a lot of fun to come up with; I hope they add a little spice to your journal entries this year. I have fallen a bit behind on my Blogmas posts (darn you, real life!) but I am going to try to get as many posts out as I can before the 25th! Be sure to subscribe to the blog so you never miss a post, and leave a comment below if you enjoyed these prompts. I’d love know how they worked for you!

  1. I love these topics Lex, they look like so much fun! I like the one about what was the best gift you ever gave and how it made you feel and what you would gift people if money was no issue. I think if money wasn’t an issue I’d gift my family a lake cabin that we could all go to to be together. Itd need a hot tub and fireplace for the winter of course, and all the water toys for the summer. Thanks!
